在学习中很多学生无法理解什么是定语从句。定语说白了就是起修饰限定的作用。比如中文里“漂亮的女孩”，“漂亮的”就是定语。同理，英语中定语也是同等作用。

考点一 关系代词和关系副词的基本用法

在复合句中，修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫做定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词叫做先行词，引导定语从句的词叫关系代词（that，which，who，whom，whose）和关系副词（when，where，why）。关系代词和关系副词既起联系作用，又充当从句中的一个成分。

定语从句的基本结构：先行词+关系词+定语从句

注意：当关系代词在句中作宾语，且引导词前没有介词时，关系代词可省略。

This is the book (that/which) I borrowed from Tom.

考点二 定语从句中主谓一致的问题

1. 关系代词在定语从句中作主语时，定语从句中的谓语动词的单复数与先行词一致。

Mr. Green whois now upstairs is asking to see you.

The Greens whoare now upstairs are asking to see you.

2. “one of + 名词复数”作先行词时，从句谓语动词用复数形式；“the（only，very，right） one of + 名词复数”作先行词时，从句谓语动词用单数形式。

Jeff is one of the students who areawarded.

Jeff is the only one of the students whois awarded.

考点三 关系代词that和which；that和who的用法辨析

1. 用that不用which的情况

（1） 当先行词为all，much，little，few，something，anything，everything，none，nothing等不定代词时

I did nothing that might hurt you.

（2） 当先行词为be后的表语或者关系代词本身在从句中作表语时

He isn’t the man that I’m looking for.

（3） 当主句为here，there开头时

Here is the letter that you wrote this morning.

（4） 当先行词有the only，the same，the very，the last等词修饰时

Shopping is the only thing that interests her most.

（5） 当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时

This is the best film that I’ve ever seen.

（6） 当主句是以who或which开头的特殊疑问句时

Who is the boy that is reading in the sun？

（7） 当先行词有两个或两个以上，并且分别表示人或物时

She took photos of the things and people that she was interested in.

2. 用which不用that的情况

（1） 先行词本身就是that时

What’s that which is flying in the sky？

（2） 在定语从句中作介词的宾语，且介词位于关系代词前时

This is the house in which I lived five years ago.

（3） 用who不用that的情况

先行词是指人的不定代词时

Anyone who wants to swim writes his name on a piece of paper.

Those who are friendly should be respected.
