今天是Julia到公司报到的第一天，人资同事 Lisa 先简单跟他说明公司规章…

make-up workday (n.) 补班日

补班的英文应该怎么说呢？动词词组 make up 是「弥补」的意思，加上连字符 make-up 就成了形容词，因此 make-up workday 就是「补班日」的意思。

We will have a make-up workday this Saturday because next week is a four-day holiday.这周六要补班因为下周有一个四天连假。

annual leave (n.) 年假

工作时最开心的莫过于可以请年假啦！而「年假」的英文就是 annual leave，annual 是形容词，表示「年度的」，leave 除了可以当动词表示「离开」之外，也可以当名词使用，表示「假」，注意 leave 在这边为不可数名词，那么请假的动词则可以用 take 表示。

I’m going to take annual leave next week for three days.我下周要请三天年假。

personal leave (n.) 事假

假别百百种，除了年假之外，还有事假等等，因为事假通常都是因为个人因素而请的，所以「事假」的英文就叫做 personal leave。另外，请假通常都要找职务代理人，而职务代理人的英文就是 substitute，若你想请人代理你的工作，就可以说：Could you cover my shift, please?。

I need to take some personal leave tomorrow; can you cover my shift?我明天必须要请事假，你可以代理我的工作吗？

Lisa 带 Julia 认识公司的各个角落，之后就带着她到所属单位报到…

transfer to another position (phr.) 调职

transfer 这个字是动词，表示「转换、转变」，后面的介词通常加 to，而 position 在这边是「职位」之意，所以 transfer to another position 就是「调职」的意思。

We’re going to hold a party for Mandy because she’s going to transfer to another position next week.我们要帮 Mandy 举办一个派对因为她下周就要调职了。

unpaid leave (n.) 留职停薪

除了请假之外，有些公司也会有「留职停薪」的规范，而「留职停薪」的英文是 unpaid leave，其中的 unpaid 为形容词，指的是「不支薪的」，因此「无薪假」的英文也是 unpaid leave。

I decided to ask for unpaid leave so I could go and study for a master’s.我决定留职停薪一年去读硕士。

resignation (n.) 辞职

resignation 是从动词 resign (辞职) 衍生而来的名词，另外 hand in sb.’s notice 也是「辞职」的意思。

He decided to resign.= He decided to hand in his notice.他决定要辞职。
